This multidisciplinary major pursues critical and rational analysis of questions about individuals and societies; about human knowledge, culture and existence. It inquires into issues about human nature; the scope and limits of knowledge and belief; God and ethics; conflict and violence; ritual and myth; and religion, politics and culture.

The major provides students with rigorous training in analytic and creative thinking, intellectual independence and cultural and ethical awareness.
