So as a part of the HSC for extension english, we must study crime fiction. And when i say must, I mean it was the best option. (life writing, romance? No thanks!)
So far we had read the likes of; Sherlock Holmes (x3), The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender, and....this.
Now I don't mean to trash any writer, especially one as prestigious as Ms Agatha Christie. But where would a writer be without her critics?
I started one of her other novel, Endless Night, and hated it. My mama however read it and loved it. Christie is famous for her heart stopping twists.
Now when my teacher gave me this book, she was mind blown. Her and a fellow student were raving away about how annoyed I would be when I got to the end, and the whole story flipped around.
Now they never should have told me that, because what did I do? I picked the ending, I've never been so proud in my life! All I did was pick the person that it would never be, and bang, got it.
Now I'm not a super genius, not in this instance anyway, because I admit I did not pick the ending until the rear end of the novel.
Now I guess I should tell you why I didn't particularly enjoy this novel.
I didn't think it was intelligent enough. Now that was probably a douche-y thing to say but it's true. I found the writing (not the story) to simple. I felt as though Thesaurus.com wouldn't have gone astray.
Now I did have in pointed out to me, that it may have been deliberate, as to cater for a particular audience. That's fair enough, but it didn't cater for me.
The story line was brilliant, very very very clever and a fantastic twist (If you don't ruin it and guess it). I do actually recommend it, if your into that sort of writing, or if you want an-in between-book just to calm your mind before diving into another classic or philosophical brain explode-r.
But there is no need to worry, The butler didn't do it!
