Caged by the Devil
Maria wanted out-The
sickly combination of bleach and urine tickled her nose, and made her
wish for the fifth time in two hours, that she was dead.
The clinking of the lock on the door made her eyes snap open, only to stare at the off white of the ceiling. She pulled the sterile blanket off her and dragged herself out of bed.
A pale woman in a nurse uniform swung open the heavily secured door. Maria sighed, here we go.
The nurse smiled down at her and held out a cup filled with pills.

‘Take them all
darling, we need you to be healthy,’ the woman directed her eyes
down to Maria’s waist, ‘Don’t we.’
Maria smiled, and swallowed down the pills trying hard to ignore the patronising tone in the nurse’s voice.
She was then given her breakfast of cold porridge in a plastic bowl, and orange juice. Next she showered in front of the nurse and a member of security. Maria protested on the necessity of their presence and was given the rehearsed answer of, ‘Every inmate must be monitored at all times, even during showers.’

By 9am Maria was
dressed and seated with the lounge or, as she called it, The Zoo.
This was where the animals came to life, and Maria, the biologist,
observed.
There were parrots crying and screeching at invisible predators, tortoises hiding silently in their shell, apes grooming themselves pulling out clumps of hair and dead carcases everywhere.
As her eyes glanced from one insane patient to the other, she wondered anyone could think she belonged here, in this place. She was not like them, she was no animal. Yet here she was, surrounded by people, but so alone.
This was His fault; Maria knew that, the Devil had sent her here.
He had always been there; ever since her birth He had tortured her. The most vile, ugly man anyone could ever imagine. Maria loathed him. Yet her mother loved him. Her mother had married the Devil.

Every night her
father would enter her room to say goodnight. She always knew when He
was coming; she could feel the air turn to ice. Maria would pull the
blankets up to her chin, but it was no use, she couldn’t fight the
inevitable.
As Maria got older her brushes with the Devil became more frequent. She would try to hide, but He always found her. When she fought back He would beat her, covering her body in bruises which she told her mother was from sport.
But she couldn’t hide the other effects. By the time she turned 14, the very sound of a males voice would make her wet her pants.
But it was the episode that did it.
Her family went to church each Sunday, and sat front and centre for the sermon. Maria would normally sit next to her mother, but instead the Devil settled beside her.
As she sat and tried to listen, He reached around and placed a hand on her shoulder, His very touch was enough to send Maria crazy.
She flew up from the seat and screamed at everything around her, her body went rigid and she began to shake. Everyone in the church stared, as she ripped chunks of hair from her head.
A week later her angelic mother and The Devil dragged her to this place. Maria cried and pleaded for her Mother to reconsider, but she told her that it was the only way.
The Devil walked over to her and hugged her, bringing his lips to her ear.
‘You either walk through those doors, or I kill you’
Maria took a step back, and stared at her parents. ‘All right, then, I’ll go to hell.’
And she did go to hell, and had been residing there for the last 8 months.
Maria looked around The Zoo, she was so lost. She felt dead. She wished her father had killed her; it would have saved her this pain.

But now she felt a
different pain, a searing burn somewhere in her stomach brought her
to her knees. She started to scream. The nurses merely glanced in her
direction and continued with their business. The animals in the room
turned their blank stares in Maria’s direction not concerned in the
slightest.
Maria lay on the ground clutching her stomach in pain. She let the tears run down her face, as she wondered what the hell was going on.
All of a sudden there was a pop, and Maria felt liquid run down her legs. She let out a squeal and called for the nurse.
Finally the nurse walked over to her hunched body. She let out a gasp and called for assistance.

Next thing she knew,
Maria was in a wheelchair being pushed outside. The sun hit her face,
and she forgot all about the pain. She was leaving. She was free.
The nurses behind her loaded her into an ambulance. Somewhere behind her someone said labour.
Realisation set in. It was happening. She was having the Devils baby.

I thought I would show you how i have progressed, from being astonishingly average, to average-ish,
I got horrible marks for this.
